Today I am going to demonstrate how to make flat bread with spinach and potato. You can enjoy this bread with lentil soup, curries, stir-fried meat or on its own.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes
  • A bunch of spinach
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • Very finely chopped small half onion
  • Salt as taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of chilli powder
  • Lukewarm water to form dough
Preparation
  • Dry roast the cumin seeds for about 4 to 5 minutes in a hot pan.
  • Form a powder of cumin seed using mortar and pestle. You can also use grinder for this. Then set the cumin powder aside.
  • Boil the potatoes until they get soft. Peel off the skin and mash them.
  • Boil the spinach until it gets soft. Squeeze the spinach to get rid of excess water.
  • Mix flour and water to form a soft dough.
  • In a large bowl, put the mashed potatoes, spinach, onion, cumin powder, salt and chilli. Mix them well to make the stuffing.
  • Make balls out of the soft dough. You should be able to make about 6 to 8 balls. Roll the balls into small flat breads about 8 inches in diameter.

  • Put a tablespoon of the stuffing on the bread. Seal the edges to form a ball. (See video above)
  • Carefully flatten the balls with the help of a dough roller. Some of the stuffing might come out while rolling. So you have to roll lightly. This time we will make the breads about 12 to 14 inches in diameter. (See video above)
  • Heat a non-stick pan on medium high. Put the bread on the pan. Heat each side until it gets brown.
  • Serve while hot with a small amount of butter on top.
